Canoeing is in 'open' (i.e. Canadian-style) canoes, very stable and ideal for lake journeys.
These boats require a single bladed paddle

Most of the journeys take place on the open water of the Lake District's many Lakes.
Although some river trips are available mostly on Grade 2-3 water.

The operators will help you develop your skills and take you on a journey. Glide along and watch the changing scenery. This is a superb activity for the family, although many a divorce has also occurred whilst paddling in these boats.

Prices are around £35 - £45 for a half day and £60 - £70 for a full day.

Canoe and kayak hire is also available should you wish to explore on your own.

Summer Holiday Activities

The Lake District is again offering great discounts
on a variety of Outdoor Activities on different days during the School holidays.
Great Half Day sessions perfect for the whole family whether you are staying in Cumbria or visiting from the North West.

minimum age of 8, these sessions are instructor lead so parents don't need to stay and Go Ape rules don't apply.

Destination Cumbria has teamed up with one of our local outdoor schools to provide a range of activities to keep your children entertained all week.

Courses start for those aged 6 and over, With sessions running weekly. We are now doing part weeks as well, Drop the kids off for the day and go enjoy yourselves elsewhere.
